Guided Reading® is an instructional approach to reading. The text enables them to use what they already know how to do as readers and extends their “processing power” with a few new challenges. Through reading with teaching support, they become more effective processors of text. The ultimate goal of Guided Reading is independent reading. These books are Level H (end of grade one to start of grade two). The illustrations are richly colored and drawn with more than enough detail to tell the story themselves. The text is simple and easy enough to engage young readers, though parents will also enjoy sharing this one with their children. The book contains a page of advice for parents on how to encourage their developing readers.
