Twenty Kids Complete 1000 Books Before Kindergarten!!
This week we reached 20 children who have read 1000 books!
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a program for children, along with their parents, to keep a log of the books they read. If you read 3 books a day, you will have reached 1000 books in one years time. When this is completed the child receives a medal and a book to take home! (small prizes along the way too.)
If you would like more information please stop by the Youth Services Desk. We can do it together!
Early language and literacy (reading and writing) development
begins in the first three years of life and is closely
linked to a child's earliest experiences with books and stories.
The interactions that young children have with such
literacy materials as books, paper, and crayons, and with
the adults in their lives are the building blocks for language,
reading and writing development. This relatively
new understanding of early literacy development complements
the current research supporting the critical role. (From www.zerotothree.org/BrainWonders)
